Leaders review outcomes of Trump–Xi meeting, regional stability, Korean Peninsula affairs, Middle East tensions, and implementation of bilateral trade agreements
SEOUL — South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on Sunday to discuss the outcome of the recent U.S.–China summit, according to a statement released by South Korea’s presidential office.
During the call, Trump shared details of his meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, including discussions surrounding U.S.–China relations, agreements on economic and trade matters, issues concerning the Korean Peninsula, and developments in the Middle East, the statement said.
According to the presidential office, Lee said the discussions between Trump and Xi regarding Korean Peninsula affairs were constructive.
Trump also told Lee that he would work closely with South Korea to contribute to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, the statement added.
Lee, in turn, said that stable management of U.S.–China relations would help promote peace and prosperity across the region and globally. He also expressed hope for the swift restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East.
The two leaders additionally discussed the smooth implementation of a bilateral trade agreement signed last year, according to the statement.
